Big Island Chess Club now offering lessons

The Big Island Chess Club is offering free chess lessons to any interested groups in the Pahoa-Keaau area.

“Learning chess offers a great deal of mental benefits, with a lot of fun too,” said coordinator Jim Lee. “You become smarter too.” To see the club in action, visit the photo gallery at www.flickr.com/photos/bichessclub.

The club’s recent Keaau Chess Tournament drew 18 contestants for a day of intense competition and camaraderie.

“They wanted a tournament every single month, and we will provide this chess tournament game for all ages, including the seniors,” said Lee.

For months, the club has been meeting on Saturdays at the Keaau Village Market. In September, the venue will change. Details will be announced later, said Lee.
